Geese flying North at midnite this week, which means the groudhog was flat fucking lying.
01-01 Mahavishnu Orchestra – Lost Trident Sessions 01 – Dream (1973)
— evidently not so lost after all, now was it? Recorded in 1973 but not released until 1999, this was supposed to be MO’s 3rd album.
01-02 Marbin – Breaking The Cycle 07 – Burning Match (2011)
— tastes like Crimson without the pointillism.
01-03 Viagra Boys – Welfare Jazz 13 – In Spite Of Ourselves (2021)
— low-fi country?
01-04-05-06 Evil Edna’s Horror Toilet – Too Much Gristle In The Blancmange 201,202,203 – Lend Me A Fiver, Floating In The Overflow, Mama Redstripe (1986)
— second side of a cassette-only release, called “Slide 2” not Side Two, because Londoners are quite clever.
01-07 Cocteau Twins – Echoes In A Shallow Bay 03 – Pale Clouded White (1985)
— my second-favorite Twins album.
02-01 Gnarbot – Origin 09 – Origin (2021)
— sharp stringwork over a bed of fluffy fuzz.
02-02 El Ten Eleven – Transitions 03 – Yellow Bridges (2012)
— precise guitar all through an entirely instrumental album. Pointillism without the Fripp?
02-03 Caldera – Dreamer 02 – Rain Forest (1979)
— so tropical, you can hear the clacking of coconuts.
02-04 Bomba Estereo – Elegencia Tropical 11 – Pa’Respirar (2013)
— trippy for a cumbia band.
02-05 Jackie Leven – For Peace Comes Dropping Slow 01 – Jesus Bodybuilder Blues, Cocaine Blues, Cannot Keep From Crying (1998)
— like a musical Hasselhoff, Leven is a god in Germany.
02-06 Hidria Spacefolk – Symetria 06 – Sine (2007)
— yes, that is a 1:30 fade-out. God bless prog.
02-07 Regina Spektor – Papa’s Bootlegs 09 – Rejazz
— before she hit it big, her Dad recorded her shows. How cute is that?
02-08 Irish Coffee – Irish Coffee 02 – The Beginning Or The End (1971)
— right out of the crotch when psych split from metal, this Belgian album sold 3,000 copies before a car wreck ended the band. To be clear, 3,000 copies was a stellar smash hit for a Belgian band in 1971.
