Ep 159 – shpungle

gts159 “shpungle”

Nine for the kings of men.

01-01 The Mars Volta – Amputechture 04 – Meccamputechture (2006)
— two of my favorite hyphenated Texans: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Cedric said: “To me, religion is the reason there is so much conflict in this world, and I think it’s just so unnecessary to believe in this blue-eyed, white-bearded, white-haired God.”

01-02 My Solid Ground – My Solid Ground (1997 CD reissue) 15 (bonus track) – Dirty Yellow Mist (Different Vocals) (1971)
— guitar and vocals by Bernhard Rendel, who started the band in Russelsheim when he was 14 years old. Here he is at the wise old age of 17.

01-03 Nexus – Detrás Del Umbral 11 – Eterno Y Fugaz (1999)
— vocals by Mariela Gonzalez, guitar is from Carlos Lucena, and this Argentine band’s keyboardist, Lalo Huber, has got Emerson Lake & Palmer stuck in his craw.

02-01 Jukka Tolonen – Tolonen! 102 – Ramblin’ (1971)
— a walk in the woods, as darkly as one would expect if the woods were in Finland in 1971.

02-02 Sergius Golowin – Lord Krishna Von Goloka 201 – Die Hoch-Zeit (1973)
— Sergius doing the tripped-out vocal parts, the first of the “Cosmic Jokers” sessions here features the awesome Klaus Schulze and members of the fantastic band Wallenstein. Klaus here credited with: Drums, Organ, Mellotron, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electronics, Percussion.

03-01 Gamalon – Aerial View 09 – Aerial View (1990)
— produced by Rochester favorite son Jeff Tyzik, this is primarily a guitar duet from Bruce Brucato and George Puleo.

03-02 7 For 4 – Diffusion 05 – Silent Flow (2008)
— out of Germany, guitarist Wolfgang Zenk said: “The kind of tune I really enjoy playing live. Dedicated to the people I’ve lost — wherever they are.”

03-03 Shpongle – Tales Of The Inexpressible 02 – Star Shpongled Banner (2001)
— a pleasing band for the wide range of world music influences they allow to shine.

04-01 Achim Reichel & Machines (and Friends) – 1973-10-20 Nachtmusik Im WDR 04 – Meditative Rockimprovisationen 2 (1973)
— performed from 10 PM to 11 PM at Kleiner Sendesaal in Köln Germany, broadcast began at 11:05 PM. Peter Franken on drums, Jochen Petersen did horns, Olaf Casalich for other percussion, and of course turn to Achim Reichel for guitar and much of the rest.
