gts173 “vampish”
Not bangers, they’re fangers.
01-01 Archie King – Dayhill 2003 – The Vampire (1959)
01-02 Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not 10 – Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But… (2006)
01-03 Duponts – Roulette 4060 – Screamin’ Ball (At Dracula Hall) (1958)
— 1958 to 1960 were the golden years of novelty tunes.
01-04 Heavy Water Factory – Cries From Hell 06 – Vampire (Tasty Mix) (1998)
01-05 Gene Moss – Dracula’s Greatest Hits 102 – Drac The Knife (1964)
— Darin twisting in his grave.
01-06 Jace Everett – I Wanna Do Bad Things With You – Karaoke Version (2009)
— opening title music of the vampire TV series “True Blood”, but here you can sing along as bad as you want! The first season of the show is excellent, highly recommended. 2nd season also pretty good, but it went off the rails later. Season 3 had Stevie Nicks as The White Witch, so that was a plus.
02-01 Gerard McMann – Lost Boys OST 06 – Cry Little Sister (1987)
— the 5th-best vampire movie ever made.
02-02 Pantera – Dracula 2000 OST 08 – Avoid The Light (2000)
— not one of the best vampire movies ever made.
02-03 Hawaii Samurai – The Shape Of Surf To Come… 13 – Adam West Vs The Vampires (2005)
— not Hawai’ian and not Japanese, they’re a French band.
02-04 Tito & Tarantula – Tarantism 01 – After Dark (1997)
— used in the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s “From Dusk Till Dawn”, the seventh-best vampire movie ever (so far).
03-01 Bauhaus – Rest In Peace 23 – Bela Lugosi’s Dead (1992)
— caught live in ’92 (un-live?), doing the song the whole crowd came for. Haven’t looked it up, but this extended version of the masterpiece seems likely to have closed out the concert.
03-02 Total Coelo – Man O’ War 104 – Dracula’s Tango (1983)
— without Total Coelo, there would have been no Spice Girls, take that however you wish. Short for ‘coelocanth’ of course.
03-03 The Woggles – Monster Party 2000 20 – Dracula’s Daughter (2000)
— recorded just for this compilation album of spooky songs.
03-04 Muna Zul – Muna Zul 08 – Vampire (2003)
— spooky sweet suite for voice and fingers.
04-01 Marc Shaiman – The Addams Family OST 01 – Main Title (1991)
— opens with “Deck The Halls” so perhaps the movie was a holiday blockbuster in ’91? I don’t recall, but stripped out the carol for our purposes here. The lead-in is a snippet from S02 of the TV series “Wednesday”, released in 2025.
04-02 Jenny Devino – Afro Art 005 – Season Of The Witch Hyponix Edit (1999)
— UK 7-inch 33-rpm single with four versions of the Donovan song, this one leads side A.
04-03 A Pair Of Kings – RCA Victor 47-7659 – The Monster (1960)
— “we saw that movie fourteen times”
04-04 Glenn Barber – Pic1 143 – I Created A Monster (1967)
— sounds like Lucy Lawless?
04-05 Alan Parsons Project – Tales Of Mystery And Imagination 102 – The Raven (1976)
— a whole album of Edgar Allan Poe tales, this one has been stuck in my head all week.
04-06 Jad Fair & Daniel Johnston – Jad Fair And Daniel Johnston 21 – Casper The Friendly Ghost (1989)
05-01 Santana – Santana 102 – Evil Ways (1969)
— no offense to women, this set is just songs plenty of DJ’s have strung together for late-October shows for many decades. Feel a duty to salute the great rock/roll stations from the days when songs tracks were only “on demand” by calling in and making a request.
05-02 Cliff Richard – The Rocket Record Company PIG-40574 – Devil Woman (1976)
05-03 The Doobie Brothers – The Captain And Me 203 – Evil Woman (1973)
05-04 Crow – Crow Music 101 – Evil Woman (1969)
— out of the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
05-05 Electric Light Orchestra – Face The Music 103 – Evil Woman (1975)
06-01 Benny Joy – Dark Angel (1958)
— not released on vinyl.
06-02 Yello – Stella 205 – Angel No (1985)
— the same album which provided “Oh Yeah” for the Ferris Bueller movie.
06-03 Eagles – Eagles 102 – Witchy Woman (1972)
06-04 Santana – Abraxas 102 – Black Magic Woman (1972)
06-05 Satan’s Pilgrims – Estrus 758 – Haunted House Of Rock (1994)
… and a bonus track…
07-01 Michael Jackson – Thriller (Remix) (2000)
— unsure who did this remix (one of many), but love what they did with Vincent Price.
