Ep 195 – carolynsh

gts195 “carolynsh”

01-01 Louis Lasky – unknown label matrix # 946B – Caroline (1935-04-02)

01-02 Neil Diamond – UNI 531 – Sweet Caroline (1971)
— no idea why this is played at every Red Sox game.

01-03 Neil Sedaka – RCA Victor 47-7595 – Oh! Carol (1959)
— Carole King wrote many Sedaka songs, on my BlueSky page when Neil passed away recently, my tribute was posting King’s reply to this, where her pappy says he’s gonna shoot her in the barn iff’n she keeps on playin’ them Sedaky records.

01-04 Cocteau Twins – Capitol SPRO-79406 – Carolyn’s Fingers (1988)
— have a handful of the Cocteau Twins 12″ singles, but this one has so far slipped through my fingers.

01-05 Little Hank & the Rhythm Kings – Rhythm & Range 101 – Christine
— no year known, this 45rpm is so rare that it’d cost you $500, if there were any for sale, which there aren’t.

01-06 Modrý Efekt – Modrý Efekt & Radim Hladík 07 – Clara (1974)
— collab by pillars of the Czechoslovakian jazzrock scene.

02-01 Tom Lehrer – An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer 201- Clementine (1959)
— like this live version better than the studio recording.

02-02 Neil Young With Crazy Horse – Americana 02 – Clementine (2012)
— just heard Lehrer asking “what if?” about Clementine, so… what if someone did it in the style of Neil Young?

02-03 Pine Mountain Railroad – Alone With Forever 01 – Clementine (2007)
— a different Clementine, and grass don’t get any bluer.

02-04 Lord Lebby with The Caribs – R&B Island 007 – Caldonia (1960)
— Island was a sub-label of R&B.

02-05 Roy Brown & His Mighty-Mighty Men – King 4669 – Caldonia’s Wedding Day (1953)
— the menu sounds good too.

03-01 Ray Charles – Tangerine 11251 – Claudie Mae (1969)

03-02 Vukovi – Fall Better 04 – C.L.A.U.D.I.A (2020)
— she’s a mess, and the song needed some bleeping.

03-03 Tommy Bee & The Juareztones – Tuffest 103 – Claudell (1963)
— not certain if this is a Roy Orbison cover, or vice versa.

03-04 Johnny Ray Harris – Ray 603 (unissued) – Lawdy Miss Clawdy (1960)

03-05 Marbin – Breaking The Cycle 08 – Claire’s Indigo (2011)
— a nice interlude.

03-06 ABBA – Voulez-Vous 203 – Chiquitita (1979)
— criminal that the singers don’t share in the continuing royalty bonanza.

04-01 Cab Calloway – Perfect 15551 – Corrine Corrina (1932)
— once, Cab had a gig in Philadelphia, but a NYC mobster sent a car full of enforcers down to “convince” him to come back up.

04-02 Wynonie Harris with The Hamp-Tone All Stars – Hamp-Tone 103 – Good Morning Corinne (1946)
— mentions Caldonia, and always glad to play Wynonie, since he’s the intro song to Rochester’s 2nd-best blues show.

04-03 BB King – The Very Best Of B.B. King 03 – Caldonia
— didn’t find the version of this which is in my head, he played it about 500 times, so here’s the closest one.

04-04 Cinnamon Quill – Morgan 21 – Candy (1969)
— new to me, sounds like a band what ought to be investigated.

04-05 Bruce Springsteen – Darkness On The Edge Of Town 104 – Candy’s Room (1978)

04-06 Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water 103 – Cecilia (1970)
— if she played in her own room, like Bruce’s Candy, then there’d no arguments.

05-01 Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson – Brick By Brick 04 – Candy (1990)
— yes, the vocalist for the B-52’s.

05-02 Black Metal Box – Painful Reminder Music – I Want Candy (1995)
— after Bow Wow Wow did the definitive cover and made Candy a boy, here we go back to the original intent from the 1960’s.

05-03 Golden Earring – Moontan 102 – Candy’s Going Bad (1973)
— not the big hit off this album, but has a nice surprise in the last half.

05-04 Tony Orlando & Dawn – Candida 101 – Candida (1970)
— Tony is not credited, because when he recorded this he was still employed by a rival record company.

06-01 Toy Dolls – Our Last Album? 11 – I Caught It From Camilla (2004)
— naturally, “unprotected” rhymes with “infected”.

06-02 The Bloodhound Gang – Hooray For Boobies 07 – The Ballad Of Chasey Lain (1999)
— even after cleaned up aggressively, still cracks me up.

06-03 Cookie And The Cupcakes – The Legendary Cookie And The Cupcakes 201 – Cindy Lou (1976)
— another band only recently turned on to, high favor.

06-04 Björk – Isobel 02 – Charlene (1995)
— perky Icelandic pixie sometimes spotted with a swan on her head.

06-05 Warren Zevon – Warren Zevon 203 – Carmelita (1976)
— at first thought to play Linda Ronstadt’s cover of this, but the Zevon just keeps popping into my head.

06-06 Johnny Fay And The Blazers – Dani 1539 – Cindy (1962)

… and a bonus track…

07-01 Gradie Joe and The Western Gents – Blue Moon 407-58 – Rock And Roll Cindy (1958)
